Katherine Dunham Youth Join "World Percussion Theatre 2011"

St. Louis, MO - The legacy of the great dancer/choreographer/songwriter/author/educator /activist, Katherine Mary Dunham, lives on through the youth of the Katherine Dunham Center for Arts and Humanities (KDCAH) and will be presented live on stage at the Sheldon Concert Hall as part of World Percussion Theatre 2011. Ms. Dunham is known as the "Matriarch and Queen Mother of Black Dance." The young members of KDCAH will perform African hand-drumming and dance in the event.

One of the most unique and unifying concerts in St. Louis, Show-Me Sound Organization's 5th annual World Percussion Theatre (WPT) represents 4 continents of percussive culture. Starring the Show-Me Sound F.O.C.U.S. DRUMLINE, the program also features: the Katherine Dunham Youth African Drum and Dance Ensemble, the St. Louis Caledonian Scottish Pipe and Drum Corps and Herman & Ron Semidey (Masters of Latin Percussion) in a celebration of cultural interconnection through the drum. WPT is presented by the Show-Me Sound Organization, directed by Terry Artis and made possible with the support of: Missouri Arts Council, Regional Arts Commission, Fox Performing Arts Foundation and the RiverCity Examiner Newspaper.

About the Show-Me Sound Organization - A 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit established in 1993, Show-Me Sound provides percussive arts activities for youth throughout St. Louis City and County.
